For those who like their fairy tales of the Grimm variety (as opposed to Disney's interpretations), I'm sharing a talented artist today. Her name is Camile Rose Garcia. She has just come out with her new book Snow White. Watch as she draws her Snow White character on video for a real treat: http://bit.ly/xRbU0O
And, here's a great article on her new book in USA Today - PopCandy:

Last November's painting that is went on display at Art Basel Miami at the Michael Kohn Gallery.
I grew up on Disney but read the Grimm tales and loved them. I think they are more telling of the darker heart of human nature. Camille captures that darkness of the Grimm brothers, using color to give an illusion of Disney.
Do you like the darker version of Snow White or are you a Disney fan?
What do you think of Camille's interpretation?

I'm a Disney fan, personally. But the artwork is interesting!
I liken her to the genre of artists like Tim Burton (who did the movie, The Nightmare Before Christmas).
I'm a Disney fan, but I love her rendition. Yes, so much in the Tim Burton genre. I want to share the top photo to my daughter, but I'm afraid I'll find it tattoo'd on her next month.
Very cool artwork. I saw another post about fairy tales this week, which reminded me of my favorite reworking was the book called Transformations by Ann Sexton. I gotta thing those stories are closer to Tim Burnton (a feminist Tim Burton) than Disney.
Picasso dines with Tim Burton?
Your daughter must be a teen. Funny how they never think they will outgrow something they want to tattoo on themselves, but tattoo removal is on the upswing.
Thanks you for mentioning Transformations. I just now looked it up and bought it--something that interests me. Thanks Liv.
Now that's an interesting thought.
The colors in these are magnificent! I also grew up on Disney but read the Grimm Tales and anything else fantastical I could get my hands on. My greatest treasure growing up was my library card. Thanks for sharing these gorgeous paintings!
I agree, the colors are magnificent. My earliest memories are going to the library and looking at the murals of fairy tales painted all over the walls as the librarian read stories.
